Being recognised and rewarded for effort is important to communities built upon contribution, interaction and good will.

Mindhive's Rewards and Recognition system is designed to highlight each member's expertise through their contribution and reward them with opportunities like Member Spotlight interviews, showcase their thought leadership in our publications, and offered exclusive invitations to community events.

In this development sprint, we have updated the existing Rewards and Recognition system for simplicity and clarity. These changes will serve as a solid foundation for future features and improvements.


Levels

The previous rankings (newbie, novice, pro and master) reflected on being a 'Mindhive expert'.

We have changed it to a simplified colour grading: blue, silver, gold and black.

Behind the scenes, points are awarded for platform activity. New levels are gained as milestones are reached. A blog post on level requirements and the points system will be coming soon.

The current system is determined by an aggregate activity score.

In the future, expertise will be applied to specific domains of knowledge. For example, a discussion may be tagged with #US, #politics and #business.

Contributions to this discussion will award points in these areas and levels (blue-to-black) will be reflected accordingly.

The current system is also milestone-based on accumulated points i.e. get the points, get the level.

We are considering a percentage-based distribution e.g. top 2% is black, next 10% is gold etc. Rankings would be calculated weekly and would consider domain expertise, contribution and activity.


Profiles

The level profile rings have been applied across the platform. You can now see a member's level wherever a profile appears, including:

  • Discussion cards

  • Topics and comments

  • Featured community members

  • Search results


Achievements

An achievements tab has been added to the member profile page.

An achievement rewards the member with a badge that focuses on specific criteria. At the moment, the three that are available include:

  • Curious, for creating discussions

  • Inquisitive, for generating interaction and activity on discussions

  • Worthy, for being awarded special mentions (recognised insightful contributions)

The badges themselves also reflect the same colour progression.

Future achievements will focus on following members, being followed, and sharing discussions on social media.


Security

  • Added HTML sanitation in backend to prevent XSS injection

  • Removed unsafe HTML handling on the frontend

Bug fixes

  • Fixed bug when deleting highlights

  • Fixed bug to calculate insights


Product Community

Nick Pelling, a British-born video game developer, has been cited to have self-proclaimed coining the term ‘gamification’ in 2002. Gamification is the application of game-design elements and principles to non-game contexts. This is done to improve user engagement, productivity, knowledge retention, and other behaviours.

Mindhive’s development cycles are named after historical or fictional characters of strong purpose in alignment with our company values: altruism, abundant thinking, and achievement.
