Brisbane-based tech company Mindhive is helping government to hear the real voices of the community in order to navigate the recovery post COVID-19.
Mindhive’s digital platform supports large groups of people to collaborate on a live project in real time.
Community members come together into public or private online discussion spaces that apply systematised principles of design thinking to economic and social problem-solving.
Supporting female founders
Jan Easton, COO of Brisbane’s Advisory Board Centre, is using the Mindhive platform to engage with female founders and socialise the barriers to achieving scale.
“Since 1991, there has been an 80% increase in the number of female-founded businesses in Australia. The next stage in supporting female entrepreneurship is to understand the conditions and support they need to achieve economic scale and for the business to reach its true potential,” said Ms Easton.
Mindhive will host a live Zoom think tank for female founders on 1 July to supplement the online discussion.
Helping small business
In May, the office of the Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman (ASBFEO) engaged Mindhive to run a public discussion to discover what Australian small and family businesses need from Government to recover post Covid-19. The discussion helped inform the ASBFEO COVID-19 Recovery Plan released on 25 May.
“Small businesses have never done it tougher,” said Ombudsman Kate Carnell. “Our Recovery Plan aims to restart the economy by making it easier for small business to boost productivity and create jobs.”
With Mindhive’s help, the Ombudsman’s project was communicated to 45,000+ individuals across Federal and State Government, Business, Education and Not-for-Profit sectors.
The project gained the attention of 4,800 individuals. There were 653 unique visitors to the public discussion space and 181 registered participants.
Community engagement with the issues that matter
Other active discussions on the platform concern the creation of a single economic market between Australia and New Zealand, whether we can trust industry-funded scientific R&D and the ethical dangers present in AI.
“Our online community recently surpassed 10,000 members and we’ve never been busier,” says Clare Morgans, Mindhive’s Head of Engagement.
“The wide range of discussions on the platform shows the power of Mindhive to drive engagement with the issues that matter.”
